I have an old ESP strat copy with a V neck. I love everything about the guitar, but I don't like V necks. I was wondering if it was possible to buy a Fender or Squier C neck with the same measurements as my current neck and swap it with the V neck that's in my guitar right now.
Will this screw up the intonation or is it as simple as removing the V neck and bolting in the C neck?
Hi. First off, I haven't tried this on those particular guitars so I don't know for sure. But, assuming the new neck will still fit snugly into the neck pocket, you should be good to go. I think the worse case scenario would be that if the "mounting point" of the neck is not the exact same size of the pocket, the pocket might swallow it up or it might stick out a little bit. Also, depending on the fit you want to achieve, you might have to drill new mounting holes.
I think it will work but definitely be sure before you spend money! I know that Fender usually has a lot of oddball measurements when compared to other instruments.
As far as the intonation is concerned, you should be able to compensate for that by just adjusting the bridge saddles like usual. Good luck and have fun!
